they taste kind of like shortbread cookies

they taste kind of like shortbread cookies
Today I received 6 boxes of these cookies. Before I bought them, I read the reviews and saw that many people received them crushed, yet I decided to give it a shot anyway. I opened all 6 boxes just to be sure and found they were all crushed and broken. I can’t take them to the office or snack on them in the car, I will be covered in crumbs. I can only eat them at home with a spoon and that’s ridiculous. As far as the taste goes...they taste kind of like shortbread cookies, yet the flavor is a little strange...maybe because it’s gluten free. At this point I don’t know what to do with these so-called cookies. Very disappointed.

I saw a case of 6 boxes of the lemon shortbread cookies for sale at the Amazon warehouse online (when did this start? It's great) for $8.99. I had never tried any of Pamela's cookies. I love lemon so I decided to buy the case. I read several reviews. Most people liked/loved them. One person said they were really tart. Another person, one of the few who didn't like them, said they tasted something like lemon pledge had been sprayed on them. I am writing to share my opinion that they are neither really tart nor taste like lemon pledge. They are a lemon flavored buttery shortbread cookie. The shortbread does a lot to cut the tartness. I found them just perfectly lemony without being overbearing. They are a delicate cookie that is easy to eat. Unfortunately the delicateness caused a couple to break into pieces. I don't find that to be a problem because I break my cookies into bites before I eat them anyway. Don't be afraid to try these cookies if you like lemon. They are definitely worth a try, especially if you get them from the warehouse. I'll order again even if I have to pay full price next time.

Tried this cookie for the first time. Although not very 'short' as in a typical shortbread cookie, this is excellent for being gluten-free. The shortbread crisp melt-in-your-mouth crumbly experience is not there. I am certain this is as close as you are going to get with no gluten in the mix.

The cookie is soft yet holds together nicely. It bursts with lemon on each bite...if you don't like a big lemon flavor these may not be for you. If they were sweeter they would almost be like the key-lime melt-away cookies that are to die for...these are not as sweet, thank goodness. Just the right amount of lemon and sugar for me. My dog who doesn't like lemon begged for a taste and she liked it. One cookie with a cup of tea was just enough for a light snack.

No offensive taste (and I'm pretty sensitive to off flavors), nice texture for being soft, yet still mimics a shortbread. I think Pamela's has done an excellent job in capturing the essence of a shortbread even if it's not crisp and flaky as a genuine gluten shortbread. I will buy more since having to be gluten free...this is a very good standard cookie.

9 cookies per box @ 120 calories each.

There are precious few gluten-free deserts that are worth eating. These are truly wonderful. But they're packed full of sugar and chocolate, so they are definitely more decadent than healthy. Most people will probably love the huge chunks of chocolate (consistency of Dove chocolate bars) in the cookies. It's a little overwhelming for me. The only way I can picture them being able to make these better is to come out with a version without the chunks of chocolate.

Edited 3/19/2014 Yikes! Just got my latest order of these and the new packaging is hideous! I can only assume their whole marketing department is colorblind. I'm so glad I discovered these cookies before this packaging change or I may never even have tried them. I can't even begin to describe the color of the box. Faded magenta? Tried for neon pink but failed?

I was really worried they had changed the cookie as well, but I am relieved to report that they taste the same as always. There are two ingredients changes, though. It looks like their rice flour is no longer classified as organic and there is a change in the third to last ingredient in the chemical names. But they taste the same and are still gluten-free, so I am relieved.

I got the chunky chocolate chip cookies. They TASTE really good, yummy flavor and the chocolate is great. Like many gluten-free desserts, the texture leaves a lot to be desired. They're very crumbly, many of the cookies didn't even make it to me in one piece, and they'll often fall apart in your hands. Not sure if the other flavors are the same, I have only tried the chocolate chip, but they do taste good enough that I'd try another flavor when I run out of these - which will take a while, I'm the only GF person in the household and six boxes of these plus some Betty Crocker GF mixes and I'm set for a while!

I'm fairly new to gluten free baking at home, but I've yet to find many recipes that have very impressive or even edible results. Some aren't bad, but few come anywhere close to the "real thing." These might have a bad texture, but they're still very satisfying cookies. No weird tastes from the flours used. The few cookie recipes I've tried at home were absolutely horrible, but if I could choose any GF dessert, I think the (other brand) cake and muffin mixes are better than these for sure. Nice to have around when you don't feel like making your own though. For ready-to-eat GF foods, these are great.

I bought these cookies as a dairy free treat. The flavor is good, but almost every cookie is in pieces with some reduced to crumbs. They came in a sturdy box, but they were destroyed somewhere in the process. I'm still eating them, I'm not crazy, they taste great, but I probably wouldn't buy them again.

I found Divvie's cookies at a local store. They were super-good and not crushed. They are dairy, egg and nut free. I would probably try ordering from Divvie's to see how their cookies hold up during shipping.

From a Gluten-Free subscriber. Oh dear. I ordered this from Amazon because it is a dollar less per box than in the Martin's store in their gluten-free aisle, and these are the best chocolate GF cookies we have ever eaten. BUT! The cookies arrived totally broken into very small pieces and loads of crumbs. Guess they would be great for a pie crust, tho. What a dissapointment. They are somewhat tender to begin with, and I don't know how Amazon can package them in a special way to prevent such destruction. We all know how packages are treated by the carriers who deliver them....not delicately, that's for sure. So, will never order these by mail again and must pay the exorbitent price the go for at Martin's. Pooh!
