After trying the usual suspects for flavored coffee (vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, chocolate raspberry), I only buy plain chocolate coffee for my daily morning routine. After I moved to North Carolina, Millstone Chocolate Velvet became my favorite for over 5 years, but the local grocery stores stopped carrying it for some reason. While I was searching for something else on Amazon.com recently, it was a great surprise to discover the elusive Millstone Chocolate Velvet coffee, in a multi-pack no less! I ordered it immediately and am delighted to enjoy the same rich flavor I have missed for years.

The laundry list of brands I have tried shows that I know chocolate coffees well: Starbuck's Mocha, Folger's Mocha Swirl, Godiva chocolate truffle, Dunkin Donuts chocolate glazed donut, Coffee Fool (black nutty fudge, chocolate espresso, dutch chocolate, Turtle Gone Nuts) plus local Southern Season Double Dutch Chocolate. Of those, Godiva was the best, but it never tasted as creamy to me as Millstone's chocolate.

Because preferences vary so widely in coffee flavors, no one brand can top everyone's list. But if you are still searching for the chocolate coffee you can drink every morning without getting tired of it, this one definitely deserves a taste test. My only complaint is that NC grocery stores in my area don't carry this.

Don't mistake this for coffee, or a mocha. It is neither of those things. It is flavored and works well as a drink when you chill it in the fridge, then pour it in a tall glass with ice and milk. That is the way to drink this drink. If you just pour it hot into a mug, it won't be very delicious. What works well with this is if you are looking for an alternative to the sugar cubes and chocolate powder, yet want a yummy drink. Hope this helps!

I was swayed to purchase this coffee due to the high ratings. My observation was that this coffee had a terrific scent, not only successful in making me downright hungry when I brewed it, but fetching many positive comments from people at work. If I didn't know any better, I'd have assumed I was brewing hot chocolate. When it was all said and done, however, I thought the overall taste was just OK. Not at all bad - after all, I only drink black coffee, but perhaps my tastebuds are just defective and I require more than a medium bodied flavor. On another note, I think it lent itself well on those weekend mornings when I felt like pouring in a splash of Jameson.

I purchased this item previously for $13.57. It's good coffee and it's a great value at that price. I really enjoy good coffee and will treat myself occasionally, purchasing high-end coffee like Jamaican Blue. This coffee is not worth $14.40/bag.

Shame on you for raising the price by more than 100%.

I can't figure out the high reviews. It does smell amazing. And it has a very full body taste, but the taste, for me was the problem. It is basically coffee and unsweetened chocolate. The unsweetened chocolate seemed rather strong and overpowering to me, so much so that the coffee flavor was lost.

I don't know if my review got posted or disappeared out in cyber space. I'm reviewing the taste of this coffee. It is very good, smooth. It has a strong smell of chocolate in the bag, and the taste is more of a hint of chocolate. That's ok...it's just a very good coffee. However, buying this coffee is another matter. It's very difficult to find as the price on this page reflects. Sorry, at $28.13 I won't be buying this coffee from here. It's good but not that good. Smuckers owns Millstone now so don't know why it's disappearing from the stores. It's an excellent coffee but not so good If you can't buy it.

    Millstone Chocolate Velvet Ground Coffee

I followed an online recipe that recommended this coffee for making Kahlua. The recipe was spot on and the Kahlua is delicious. (The name of the recipe is 'best-homemade-kahlua' and can be found on Cooks dot com.)

I didn't need an entire bag for the Kahlua, and made coffee with the remaining grounds but did not much care for it, finding the flavor to be just 'OK'. However, that may simply be my bias as I prefer very strong black coffee. I would rate this coffee as no more than medium strength.
