— The Ghirardelli Story —

In 1849, when Domingo Ghirardelli immigrated to the United States from his homeland of Italy, he had dreams of striking it rich in the California Gold Rush. He settled on opening a tent-store in Stockton, CA, selling various supplies and confections to fellow miners. With his new business proving successful, Domingo decided to open a store and hotel in San Francisco. After a major fire in 1851 destroyed his businesses, he began to rebuild. In 1852, he formed a new confectionery company that would soon become the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company.

Domingo would be proud to see how his chocolate company has not only grown, but flourished over the years. It started as a dream in the mid-1800s and it is now a thriving company and a leading brand of premium chocolate.

Delicious dark chocolate with the perfect combination of salted caramel
These dark chocolate and caramel sea salt treats are divine! I am one of the minority of people who do not care for milk chocolate, but LOVE dark chocolate. The problem is, unless you're talking about fancy, gourmet chocolate, dark chocolate can be hard to find in retail stores. Or, even worse, really delicious chocolate candies aren't even made in a version with dark chocolate, only milk chocolate. When I saw these on Amazon I had to try them. They were every bit as delicious as I imagined! The dark chocolate and sea salt combination is perfect. There is no actual sea salt on top of the chocolate, but inside of the dark chocolate where the caramel filling is, contains sea salt. It is a deep, rich dark chocolate with the perfect taste of salty caramel in the middle. The price isn't a great deal, as you can likely find these for about the same price or a little cheaper in a retail store - but that's if you can actually find this version in a retail store. So to have these available on Amazon is great. If you like dark chocolate, you will love these!

    I really haven't tasted a Ghiradelli product I have not enjoyed. They know how to balance that rich intense chocolate flavor with whatever the filling is. My favorite way of having these is keeping them in the freezer, then just savoring it. The chocolate is thin enough to break easily even though it's frozen, so no need to worry about breaking a tooth, and the cold seems to intensify the flavor, in my opinion.
    (Disclaimer: With regard to freezing the chocolates, this is my opinion, not Amazon's, and they do not endorse doing this, not guarantee the same result, so if you have fragile teeth, break it by hand-- again, it's easy enough to do because the chocolate exterior is thin.)

    Usually, the only time I buy chocolate is after valentines day sales. Well, I got some of these in a variety pack one time and absolutely loved them!! They're creamy, salty and just the right mixture of bitter and sweet, I'm not a big fan of super sweet chocolate and all chocolate and caramel (sea salt or otherwise) that I have found is far too sweet for my taste. These, however, are perfect! So naturally I was exited when I found a whole pack online (couldn't find any packs of just this kind in store) for a good price. I was a little worried that they would be damaged in transit (my post office is really bad about stuff like that) but the package came undamaged and all the candy was intact. I was honestly a little surprised considering the packaging was just the bag of chocolate in a box, no padding or anything, but I can't complain since nothing happened.

    Over all, Great chocolate!
    and I'm enjoying them even as I write this revive :)

    For anyone who has never tried salted caramel: It sounds weird, but trust me, it works! The salt brings out the sweetness and also enhances the flavor of both the dark chocolate and caramel. You'll reach the bottom of the bag  sooner than you think!
