Love notes have come a long way from those handwritten secret messages of Luisa Spagnoli, who created Baci in 1922 with hidden notes as a way to communicate with her lover. In the heart of Italy, lies the lush region of Umbria and the city of Perugia, where you will find Perugina, home of the Perugina Chocolate Masters and the famous factory, a symbol of quality chocolate and tradition for more than a century. Its secret is in the passion with which new flavors and combinations are experimented with every day, creating the highest quality product and irresistible flavors for Baci Perugina, one of the most loved and widely known chocolates around the world. In 1922, Luisa Spagnoli, the creative genius behind Baci Perugina, had the idea to create the confection that we know today by blending chocolate with a ground hazelnut cream, mixing in some chopped hazelnuts, crowning the confection with a whole hazelnut and then covering it in fine precious dark chocolate. Nearly 100 years later, the original recipe and process remains unchanged. The process involves the same expertise and experience from the first day it was made to ensure excellence from the cocoa selection to the careful steps by which the chocolate is made. Even today, each Baci Perugina is personally checked before being wrapped. The proprietary recipe for the unique chocolate results in a flavor and texture that is both intense and velvety and is closely guarded by the masters of the Scuola del Cioccolanti Perugina (Perugina chocolate school).According to legend, the first love note appeared in the 1930s, inspired by Luisa Spagnoli, the founder of Baci Perugina, who would send chocolates wrapped in love notes to her lover, Giovanni Buitoni. I love these chocolates.. but buyer beware…. They say you receive 3, 5 ounce bags - which you pay for. But, they only send you 3, 4.4 ounce bags of chocolates. There is No Way to complain, or return them and no way to refund your money.

    So I grew up with these they actually mean kiss in Italian and they have a lovely little love note in every one Italian chocolate is a bit different than American chocolate its definitely better it's darker and much less sweet than American chocolate but still very good I love the hazelnut crunch you also get a whole hazelnut right on the top of the chocolate so really good treat

    This hazelnut candy is so good I'm surprised it doesn't have a sin tax added on. I have eaten a lot of hazelnut candy - Ferro Roche, Cote D'or milk and dark with hazelnuts, but this is the best. There is a checkbox for giftable for this candy. I didn't check it because I ate the whole thing in spite of my good intentions to share. : )

    Nothing worse than the taste of stale chocolate - especially for the overprice. Baci is my favorite chocolate and was willing to pay extra to get a fresh Baci at home. None of the chocolates in the 3 bags are good. The chocolate doesn't have the "dark" color but a light brown from lack of moisture and the taste is disgusting - is like tasting sand. I tried a chocolate from each box - yes, I opened them hoping one bag was not good but all the bags are stale/expired. Shame that I cannot return the product because of Amazon's policy so please DO NOT waste your money. I DO NOT recommend buying from this vendor!
