I think these are the very best mints you can buy. To h*** with the cost.
The chocolate is dark and bitter, and the mint filling flavor is subtle while being strong. (Is that possible? Great flavor and complements the chocolate excellently.)
I have friends who bug me for them whenever I see them (I refer them here) and those who really pucker up on the first bite. Fortunately, I am not shy about finishing them, and there is one less person with whom one must share.
The only problem . . . for those that like them, they are almost additional.

3 days to eat 6 boxes of chocolate!
Bendicks Bittermints are my favorite chocolate mint however I was sent six boxes that I picked up today only to discover that I had only three days to eat 6 boxes of mints myself before they were out of date. Worse was the fact that the chocolate had softened and rehardened so the chocolate was out of temper and had gray bloom. The mint fondant was also much harder than the usual good quality. Fortunately, Amazon refunded my money even though when I wanted to start the return on the Amazon site, it indicated that the item was not returnable. I appreciated the sympathetic agent and hope others are not sent what I received, which is reason for the review. Once chocolate is out of temper it loses its snap and its ability to melt in the mouth as it should. It is unpleasant. The gray bloom you see in the picture is caused by the cocoa butter crystals that have come to the surface when the chocolate warmed which then hardened when it cooled, losing its crystalline structure. Hoping this is a fluke as I ordered over a dozen boxes for Christmas gifts and no one had issues. If you are in London, Fortnum and Mason makes a very good mint similar to Bendicks but made with the English varietal, Mitcham Peppermint, with the couverture being almost pure chocolate with little sweetening. The F&M's mint is very expensive when you add in the shipping, so I will bring them back from the UK as a souvenir or gift. The same used to be the case with Bendicks, however as they are now made in Germany, they are reasonably priced and so conveniently available from Amazon. I liked one comment in that you either like Bendicks or you don't. I once gave one to friend and she said, "Scope." Yikes, They are an adult chocolate and I love them and one mint makes for a most satisfying ending to dinner or when you need a treat. Too bad they moved from their home in the UK to Germany but as the world changes economically, I find my German BMW was born in South Carolina and it is still a good car.
