Product Description

Basic melt and pour soap

Making soap at home is a practical and satisfying skill to learn. Whether you'd like a natural alternative to store-bought soap, or you're a crafty person looking for a new creative venture, making soap is fun and not too difficult.
Melt and pour soap is basically melting a pre-made soap base and then pouring it into a soap mold, hence the name! Although some soapers consider using this method as ‘cheating’, I find that there are some techniques where melt and pour is the more suitable soap than cold process soap.

1. Cut up the soap base in small cubes and add them to the heat proof glass jug.
In the past few years, many kinds of melt and pour soap bases have become available, such as goats milk, olive oil, shea butter, honey, and even a wobbly jelly-like soap base!
Cut up the required amount of melt and pour soap base into small cubes and place them in a heat proof glass jug .

2. In short 20-30 second bursts, melt the soap base in your microwave on your highest setting.
The technique of melting and pouring the pre-made soap is very simple. Be careful your soap does not boil! If you don’t have a microwave, you can melt the soap on the stove using the double boiler method (placing one smaller pot inside a bigger pot of water).

3. Once the soap is completely melted, add your fragrance and colour and mix well.
You can use essential oils or skin-friendly fragrances. To colour your soap, you can use special soap dyes or powders, micas, or liquid food colouring. Note that colours added to a white soap base will become pastel coloured. To achieve bright vivid colours, you will need to use a clear soap base. And if you find your soap has hardened in the meantime, just pop it back into the microwave again for another 20 seconds.

4, Carefully pour the soap into your soap mold and let it harden before removing the soaps from the molds.
If there are any bubbles on the surface, you can disperse them by spritzing some isopropyl alcohol (available from pharmacies) on it. Leave the soap to harden fully before removing from the mold.
Because melt and pour soap contains glycerin, a humectant, which attracts moisture, it is important to wrap your soaps in glad wrap as soon as they have cooled down and hardened.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2016These molds are great to use for DIY projects. I have not used them for cooking though. So far, I have used them for lotion bars and soaps. I have gotten many compliments on the design of my products from using these molds. They are the perfect size for lotion bars. And because they are round, it makes it especially easy to use the lotion bars. I will be using these molds a lot for Christmas gifts. I'm going to try adding a small amount of mica powders to the molds before pouring in my soaps or lotions to get the design to really "pop" when I release the product from the mold. I think these molds are very durable and will last me a long time.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2015I bought this item to put homemade all natural lotion in to form bars and put a nice design on them. It does just this. I now also use it to make large, round, pretty ice cubes and plan on using it as a chocolate mold in the future too. The silicone is very " floppy" . Some silicone molds are stiffer and some are more floppy. The down side of floppy is you have to place it on a tray to keep it level in the freezer ( unless you just stretch it taunt as you carry it full of water to freezer & have a level surface to put it on. The upside of " floppy " silicone molds is its much easier to get what you molded out of the mold. I'll take floppy over a stiff mold any day . Stiff molds are harder to get the ice, lotion, chocolate, etc . out of.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2015I used this mold the other day to make some soaps for Christmas gifts and it worked great! The soaps popped right out when they were dry and didn't leave any residue behind and didn't break when getting removed. The only thing to note is that these molds are rather small, like tiny hotel soap size as opposed to a regular bar of soap. It only took half a pound of melt & pour soap to fill the whole thing. Really cute, just small.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2023I used this mold to make themed wax melts for one of my favorite characters. It was my first time making melts and these worked perfectly for what I needed them for! One is a little too detailed for melts but that was my fault. Losing some of the detail didn't bother me at all, as they turned out great either way. Cleanup was easy, too. I'll be buying another for making real mooncakes!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2015I've been using this mold to make lotion bars and it's been perfect. I love the different designs and others have commented on how beautiful the bars look. I really like that some of the designs are less "girly" so they were well received by my husband and brother-in-law. They're also the perfect size to fit into the tins I purchased.
